Lessons Learned from the Colonial Pipeline Attack

June 9, 2021

Cybersecurity attacks that affect our daily lives serve as massive wake-up calls to improve our IoT and Operational Technology (OT) security. The recent cyberattack on the Colonial Pipeline disrupted oil and gas distribution along the East Coast of the U.S., causing gas shortages and higher prices, and mass hysteria in some places. And it showed just how fragile our critical infrastructure is to cyber-attacks.

Colin Duggan, founder, and CEO of BG Networks, a cybersecurity technology partner with WINSYSTEMS, has authored a series of three blog articles, each to appear on Embedded Computing Design, that will review cyberattacks that exposed severe vulnerabilities. The goal is to help raise awareness of the urgent need for improved cybersecurity of IoT devices. The series of articles will present security features that would have mitigated each of the attack vectors used by the hackers that attacked Colonial Pipeline.
